Participation: 100

Our schedule is changed for the week since the seniors have things to do. So now we will have showcase days today and tomorrow. Today, I worked with Ashley and Christa on Nightswim for the first half. We finally got the final 2 pages of our play today! And I found out I have a pretty long monologue I have to memorize asap! I'm not doubting that I won't be able to do this, but I know it will take a lot of effort which I will put in. I worked with Scarlett and Imani on Shes Fabulous during the second half, and we ran through the show a few times. Scarlett says we are making great progress, but she told me that I am not making my hits clear enough. That is also something I will be working on.

Today, while Brett and I stayed after school to film our science project. My plans to get the 2 teasers done fell through, because Imani couldn't be at our shoot early enough to film it, and I also realized that we have not been directed more than a few times, so the acting in the teaser would have been really bad. I was also planning on re-filming the dmv shoot, but it was also the same case with that. Since I will need something to edit whenever we do minors this week, I will just film the parts that I need Brett in, and edit accordingly.

Today, we worked on Freshman showcase blocking. Today was the first day that scheduling was normal, so I had equal time working on each play. For the first half of class, I worked on "Nightswim". Ashley, Christa, and I went to the black box to work on blocking for the first time. I will be sitting by my tent for most of the play, except for toward the end, when I sit by the fire pit with Christa. I think that my acting is coming along well, I just need to make sure I have each line memorized word by word. For the most part I was off book, but I did have a few lines toward the end and a small monologue that wasn't completely there yet. After I worked on "Nightswim", Scarlett, Imani, and I went to a classroom to work on "She's Fabulous." Imani and I will be sitting in theater seats the whole time, since the play takes place during intermission of a play. The both of us aren't completely off book yet, since we just got the play a few days ago, but by Monday I have promised myself that I will be completely off book with both of my plays. It's very ironic that Scarlett casted Imani and I in this play, because the characters are basically exaggerated versions of Imani and I when we are in competition mode with each other. Scarlett says the play is coming along well and I do think that could be why.

On Monday, Brett and I are staying after to film our science project. While we stay after, I am planning on filming 2 teasers for our showcase. I have to re-film the DMV teaser because the show was re-casted. I will film in the same way as I did before, only Brett will be in it instead of Christa. I will also film the video for the play Imani and I are in called "She's Fabulous." For this viral, Imani and I will be sitting in the theater seats in the auditorium, performing a small excerpt from the show. Hopefully, Scarlett will be there to be in Brett and I's project, so she can film it for me because I have to be in it.

On 4/25/12, I did table work for the two plays that I am in for Freshman Showcase, which are called "Nightswim" and "She's Fabulous." For the first half of class, I worked on "She's Fabulous" with Scarlett for the first time. We worked on given circumstances for a while. I figured out my obstacles, objectives, tactics, ectc. for each page of the script. Imani and I also read through the script together one time. After I worked with Scarlett, I worked with Ashley on "Nightswim". We had to re-work the beats that we had previously worked on, because Ashley realized that they were wrong.

4/25/12 Journal

Since I realized that we never received our plays for the 4th marking level, We don't have anything to journal about. So from now on, I will use my journal to record what I have been doing on my own to work on freshman showcase. On Monday, I filmed my footage for the DMV play teaser. I got everything done, however, The part of "DMV lady" has been re-casted. Now I have to re-film that viral, plus a viral for one of the other plays. I have brought it upon myself to film/edit a viral every week. It is almost a good thing that I didn't get to edit that viral on Tuesday, because I would have been wasting my time anyway.

Today we had our very first nutrition class, which was surprisingly very interesting to me. I learned a lot of things that I didn't know before, and it really opened my eyes and made me think about my eating habits. My problem is that I eat pretty healthy, but I have very bad portion control. Even a lot of a good thing isn't good for you. Today we learned that the three ways to eat healthy are to eat, not eat too much, and eat mostly plants. Most things in a box are not good for you at all, and if it has more than 5 ingredients and they are things that you can't pronounce, odds are its bad for you. One thing I did realize today is that most of us don't even know what we are eating. None of us could even define the basic nutrience that we consume daily such as fiber, carbohydrates, ectc.
**Also another thing, I found out that I am now casted in Scarlett's play for freshman showcase, and I feel really annoying for asking this again, and if it's going to be a problem it is totally fine, but is there any way I can switch my major back to acting? Again I feel bad about changing my mind again, but the reason I switched my major from the beginning was because I thought that film would be more time consuming and since I was only in one play that wouldn't take much time, but know that I am in two again I think it would be better to switch but I wouldn't want to put anyone through changes again**

Today was a Freshman Showcase day, so for the first period I worked on the two virals that I am filming. Tomorrow, Imani, Zack, and I will be filming part of the viral for their show. Brett will be helping me and possibly be used as an extra. We can't use the auditorium  because there was a mix up and we don't have a teacher to supervise us, so we are going to go to the mall and try to film a part of it in Starbucks, since the play takes place in a Cafe. If we can't get permission to film there, we are going to go to the other restaurnts in the mall and see if they will let us. Anyway, back to today. For the second half of class, Ashley worked with Christa and I on our play, Nightswim. We continued to work on beats, given circumstances, and objectives. I personally think the rehearsal went well.

4/19/12 Journal

Today I continued to read "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller. I am still toward the beginning of Act 1, and at this point of the play Willy is complaining about his son, Biff. He calls him a "lazy bum" and "lost". He also says that he is such a hard worker and that he has such personal attractiveness. He tells his wife that when he sees him in the morning, he will have a nice talk with him and talk him into getting a job. When we are introduced to Happy and Biff, Happy is very concerned about his father. He thinks that he is losing it because of his clumsiness.Happy asks Biff if he is still mad at his father, and even though he doesn't openly say it, he doesn't seem to happy with him.

Today was a crazy day in class. Ashley and Zari are not doing the plays that I was in anymore, so now I am only in Ashley's new play, called Nightswim, with Christa. I have to admit, a was a little disappointed that we weren't doing the other two plays, and also that I am only in one show now. However, there are pro's and con's to the situation. Now I get to have complete focus on one play. I also decided that I want to switch my major to Film and Acting to my minor, just for this marking level. Since I am only in one play now, and my virals will take a lot of work, it will be much easier for me to major in film so I have more time to perfect my virals. I already have plans for 2 virals and set days to film them, so I think my grade for film will be high if everything goes as planned.

4/18/12 Journal

Today I started to read "Death of a Salesman" by Arthur Miller. The play begins with Willy Loman returning from a trip. His wife, Linda, comes to talk to him, and she asks him if he got into an accident, since he once drove into a river. He didn't, but he said he kept getting into a trance and almost hit a boy. Linda suggests that Willy asks his boss for a job that doesn't require him to leave the city, because his sons Biff and Happy are coming to town.

Today was supposed to be our theater history day, but instead, we worked on the scheduling for the weeks we will be doing Freshman Showcase. On Mondays, we will be doing our normal acting training, on Tuesday's we will do our majors/minors that are not acing. Since my minor is film, I will be working on my virals for the showcase. On Wednesday and Thursday, we will work on our plays for Freshman showcase, and Fridays are nutrition days. We decided that we aren't going to be doing history during the 4th marking level.

4/17/12 Journal

I didn't do a blog on Monday because of the program auditions.  I finished reading "A Streetcar Named Desire" over the weekend. From where I left off, I was in the middle of Scene 4, during Blanche's speech about how Stanley's behavior can be compared to an animal. She also says there is even something about him that would make her think he came right out of the stone age. Blanche shares her concern for her sister's well being with Mitch, but instead of giving her much advice, she admits that he likes her and wants to marry her. In Scene 7, Stanley tells Stella that he thinks she is lying to them about a number of things, including her past with men, which she had also lied to Stanley about. She had plenty of dates with men while staying at the hotel Flamingo, but they would stop seeing her after a few dates. Once Mitch found out about this, he decided that although he still wanted to be with her, he does not want to marry her. After this happens, Blanche is in her room, and Stanley comes in drunk, and begins to talk to her. At the end of Scene 10, he rapes her. In Scene 11, Blanche spends most of her time in the bath, but when she does have an encounter with the poker players, which is very uncomfortable. Blanche ends up leaving with the doctor, which leaves Stella devastated by the fact that she ruined her sister. The play ends with Stanley trying to comfort her/

Today we continued to strike the set from the New Plays Festival. In the beginning, Christa, Brett, and I took the first job which was to put away all of the wood that was on the stage. Once we got that done, I helped Lindsay move some of the set pieces to Urinetown. On my way back from finishing that job, I saw that Zack needed help putting the projection screens onto a cart to bring to the trailers. I helped him move those, and then Imani, Ashley, and I went to the trailers to put the screens away. For the remainder of class, I helped rip spike tape off of the stage.

4/4/12 Journal

I am now on Scene 4 in A Streetcar Named Desire. At this point in the play, Blanche is very disappointed in Stella for coming back home and sleeping with Stanley after the fight that happened the night before. Stella tells Blanche that she is making a big deal out of nothing and that Stanley apologized for his outburst during the card game. She said that it is just how he is and sometimes when he gets really she is sometimes thrilled by it. Blanche sort of changes the subject after Stella makes that statement, but then ends up going back to the fact that Stella is married to a madman and how she needs to build up the strength to leave him because she is still young.

On Monday in class, we had to do photo call, which is basically taking pictures of different parts of the play. Since I wasn't really in much of mainstage, I sat in class and worked on my oral defense. I will be showing the two teasers I have filmed, and I will talk about the small jobs I had picked up throughout mainstage.

4/2/12 Journal

I have to make up my Monday blog, so I will continue summarizing A Streetcar Named Desire from where I left off from the 4/3 blog. I am now on Scene 4. It is early in the morning and Stella is back in her apartment. Stella tells Blanche that Stanley has gone to get the car greased. Blanche begins to make a fuss about how worried she was for Stella. Stella tells Blanche that Stanley has an aggressive past, and even after their wedding when they came to their new apartment, he began to smash light bulbs.

Today we got to meet Lacey, who is an alumni of the program and also Lindsay's older sister. She has just gotten back from London with Mason Gross. We got the chance to ask her any questions that we have that are theater related. We also got to see her perform one of her monologues. It was really interesting to get to talk to her, because she was part of Mrs. Aladren's class who she hand picked. After talking to Lacey, we started striking the set from Mainstage.

4/3/12 Journal

I have continued to read A Streetcar Named Desire. I am in the middle of Scene 3 right after Stanley's outburst on Stella. Stanley has finally calmed down, but now Mitch knows that Stella is pregnant. All of the men get out of the apartment as soon as they can. Stanley notices that Stella is gone, and begins to cry. She has gone to stay with Eunice, and Eunice sends messages through the wall saying that Stella will not come down.
