12/13/11 Participation

Participation: 100

I learned a lot about musical films today while watching the movie, My Fair Lady, in class today. Musical films tend to try and emulate the feeling of being in an actual theater. For example, The introduction to the film that usually lists the credits and plays background music is representing what would be an overture in a play. I also learned the definition of an In siding action. An In siding action is a change in the status quo of a play. In My Fair Lady, the In siding action was when Eliza made a scene in the middle of town because she thought that Higgins was stalking her. I learned a few random facts while watching the movie, including that many people who didn't have much money only took showers in the spring, which I thought was pretty disgusting when I found that out. I also learned a lot about the clothing that was worn in the early 1900's. Women wore long dresses and big frilly hats most of the time. I am very exited to be working on my design that was assigned to me for this week.
